Chromosome a thread-like structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
DNA deoxyribonucleic acid, a self-replicating material which is present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.
Gene (in informal use) a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
Gene Mutation a mutation due to an intramolecular reorganization of a gene
Gene Therapy the introduction of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders.
Mutagen an agent, such as radiation or a chemical substance, which causes genetic mutation.
Negative Mutation a mutation that has harmful effects
Neutral Mutation a mutation that has no effect
Nucleolus a small dense spherical structure in the nucleus of a cell during inter-phase.
Nucleus the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth.
Positive Mutation a mutation that has a positive mutation on the body
Protein any of a class of nitrogenous organic compounds which have large molecules composed of one or more long chains of amino acids and are an essential part of all living organisms, especially as structural components of body tissues such as muscle, hair, etc.
Anadromus (of a fish such as the salmon) migrating up rivers from the sea to spawn.
Spawn (of a fish, frog, mollusk, crustacean, etc.) release or deposit eggs.
Natal Stream (Natal streams) The stream in which a fish was born, where it returns to spawn.
Alevin a newly spawned salmon or trout still carrying the yolk.
Fry the stage in the salmon`s life cycle after the alevin stage
Smolt a young salmon (or trout) after the parr stage, when it becomes silvery and migrates to the sea for the first time.
Milt the semen of a male fish.
