Classification Grouping of objects or information based on similarities.
Taxonomy Branch od biology that groups and names organisms based on studies of their shared characteristics.
Binomial Nomenclature Two word system developed by Carolous Linnaeus to name species.
Genus First word of a two-part scientific name used to identify a group od similar species.
Specific Epithet The second word of a species name.
Family Consists of a group of similar genera.
Order Taxonomic grouping of similar families.
Class Taxonomic grouping of similar orders.
Phylum Taxonomic grouping of similar classes.
Division Taxonomic grouping of similar classes; term used instead of phyla by plant taxonomists.
Kingdom Taxonomic grouping od similar phyla of divisions.
Archaebacteria Prokaryotes that live in harsh areas like hot springs and swamps.
Eubacteria Prokaryotes with strong cell walls.
Protists Eukaryotes that lack complex organ systems and live in wet areas.
Fungi Uni and multicellular eukaryote that absorbs nutrients from organic matter.
Plants Multicellular, photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms that contain chloroplasts and cell walls made up of cellulose.
Animals Multicellular and are heterotrophs that have developed nervous systems.
