Diffusion osmosis

TermDefinition
diffusion Spreading out of particles due to random collision.
osmosis Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane.
facilitated diffusion A type of diffusion involving ions and large polar solutes like glucose.
tonicity Relative solute concentrations of two solutions.
isotonic Two solutes with the same solute concentration.
hypotonic More water than solutes.
hypertonic More solute less water.
turgidity The bloating of a plant cell when placed in a hypotonic solution.
plasmolysis Collapsing of the cell membrane due to loss of water.
cytolysis The fate of an animal cell in hypotonic solution.
