| Genus | A group of similar species. |
| Specific epithet | The second word which describes a characteristic if that organism. |
| Order | A taxon of similar families . |
| Class | A taxon of similar orders. |
| Phylum | A taxon of similar classes. |
| Division | a taxonomic grouping of similar classes; term used instead of phyla by plant taxonomists. |
| Kingdom | taxonomic grouping of similar phyla or divisions. |
| Archaebacteria | chemo synthetic prokaryotes that live in harsh conditions such as deep sea vents and hot springs. |
| Eubacteria | group of prokaryotes with strong cell walls and a variety of structures may be autotrophic or heterotrophic. |
| Protista | diverse group of multicullular or unicellular eukaryotes that lack complex organ systems and live in moist areas. |
| Fungi | group of unicellular or multicellular heterotrophic eukaryotes that do not move from place to place. |
| Plants | milticellular, photosynthetic, eukaryotic organisms that contain chloroplasts and cell walls made up of cellulose. |
| Animals | multicellular heterotrophs that have developed nervous systems. They do not have cell walls but have multiple feeding habits. |
