Complementary base pairing The standard arrangement of bases in nucleotides in relation to their opposite pairing such as thymine being paired with adenine and cytosine paired with guanine
DNA Helicase An enzyme that helps unwind and unzip DNA molecules
DNA polymerase An enzyme that helps proof read the sequence of DNA after it is set up
Recombinant DNA Molecules formed by laboratory methods of genetic recombination to bring together genetic material
Replication This is the process of producing two identical copies from one original DNA molecule
Semi-conservative replication The production of an identical daughter cell to the parent strand
anti-codon A sequence of three adjacent nucleotides in transfer RNA that binds to a corresponding codon in messenger RNA
Codon A sequence of three adjacent nucleotides constituting the genetic code that determines the insertion of a specific amino acid in a polypeptide chain during protein synthesis or the signal to stop protein synthesis
DNA sequence DNA sequencing is the process of determining the precise order of nucleotides within a DNA molecule
Elongation Amino acids are added to the chain one at a time
Environmental mutagen This is a physical or chemical agent that changes the genetic material
Genetic disorder this is an illness as a result of abnormalities in the genome
Initiation 2 small ribosomal sub-units attaches to mRNA at start codon
Messenger RNA carries genetic information from DNA to ribosomes
Mutation this is the change of nucleotide sequence of an organism
Termination initiates disassembling of the sequence this occurs at he stop codon
Transcription complementary mRNA is made from the template strand of DNA
Transfer RNA brings in amino acid to the ribosomes
Translation the genetic code, it has triplet code and 64 different mRNA codon
