Abdominal Locations

TermDefinition
right upper quadrant contains the right lobe of the liver, gallbladder, right kidney and parts of the large and small intestines
left upper quadrant contains the left lobe of the liver, stomach, pancreas, left kidney, spleen, and parts of the large and small intestines
right lower quadrant contains the right ureter, right ovary, and uterine tube, appendix, and parts of the large and small intestines
left lower quadrant contains the left ureter, left ovary and uterine tube, and parts of the large and small intestines
hypochodriac regions the right and left upper lateral regions of the abdomen that are beneath the ribs
epigastric region the upper medial region between the hypochondriac regions
umbilical region the region containing the navel or umbilicus
lumbar regions the regions to the right and left of the umbilical region
hypogastric region the lower medial region between the iliac regions
iliac (inguinal) regions the right and left lower lateral regions of the abdomen
