| Pollination | transfer of pollen grains from male to female part of flower |
| Fertilization | joining of male & female sex cells |
| Self-pollination | pollen from male part pollinates female part of same flower |
| Cross-pollination | pollen moves from one flower to another |
| Hybrids | offspring produced by parents with different forms of same trait |
| Dominant trait | trait usually expressed |
| Recessive trait | trait usually hidden, but can reappear |
| Probability | how likely an event will happen |
| Punnett Square | tool used to calculate probability |
| Pedigree | chart used to follow traits in a family |
| Carrier | individual who inherited a trait but does not show it |
| DNA | deoxyribonucleic acid; contains code that tells cells how to operate |
| Genes | portion of a chromosome that controls a particular trait |
