superior uppermost or above
inferior lowermost or below
proximal nearer the origin or point of attachment
distal far or distant from the origin or point of attachment
caudal in an inferior position
cephalad toward the head
anatomic planes imaginary flat surfaces that are used to aid in visualizing spatial relationships of internal body parts
frontal plane divides the body into front and back portions; also called the coronal plane
transverse plane divides the body into upper and lower portions.
midsagittal plane divides the body into right and left portions
