Binomial Nomenclature Amethhod for grouping organisms based on physical and structural similarities
Class A taxon of similar orders
Classification The grouping of objects or information based on similarites
Division A taxon at the rank of division. The second highest taxonomic classification for the kingdoms Plantae (plants) and fungi, between kingdom level and class level.
Family The next larger taxon in the biological system,consists of a group of similar genera
Genus Consists of a group of similar speices
Kingdom A taxonn of similar phyla or divisons
Order A taxon of similar families
Phylum A taxon of similar classes
Specific Epithet A characteristic of an organism
Taxonomy Branch of biology that groups and names organisms based on studies of their characteristics
Cladistics a method of classification of animals and plants according to the proportion of measurable characteristics that they have in common
Cladogram a branching diagram showing the cladistic relationship between a number of species.
Eubacteria a bacterium of a large group typically having simple cells with rigid cell walls and often flagella for movement. The group comprises the “true” bacteria and cyanobacteria, as distinct from archaebacteria.
Fungus any of a group of unicellular, multicellular, or syncytial spore-producing organisms feeding on organic matter, including molds, yeast, mushrooms, and toadstools.
Phylogeny the branch of biology that deals with phylogenesis.
Protist eukaryotic one-celled living organisms distinct from multicellular plants and animals: protozoa, slime molds, and eukaryotic algae
