Classification

| Classification | the grouping of objects or information based on similarities. |
| Taxonomy | is the branch of biology that groups and names organisms based on their diff characteristics. |
| Binomial Nomenclature | a modern classification system use a two word naming system made by Linnaeus. |
| Genus | consists of a group of similar species. |
| Specific Epithet | the second word, which describes a characteristic of an organism. |
| Family | the next larger taxon in the biological classification system, consists of a group of similar genera. |
| Order | is a taxon of similar families. |
| Class | is a taxon of similar orders. |
| Phylum | is a taxon of similar classes. |
| Division | plant taxonomists use this taxon instead of phylum. |
| Kingdom | a taxon of similar phyla or divisions. |
| Phylogeny | the evolutionary history of a species. |
| Cladistics | one biological system of classification that is based on phylogeny. |
| Cladogram | biologists identify a group's derived traits and use them to make a branching diagram. |
| Eubacteria | have strong cell walls and a less complex genetic makeup than found in archaebacteria or eukaryotes. |
| Protist | a eukaryote that lacks complex organ systems and lives in moist enviroments. |
| Fungus | is either a unicellular or multicellular eukaryote that absorbs nutrients from organic material in the enviroment. |
