Primate Evolution
| Term | Definition |

| Primate | group of mammals that includes lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans. |
| Opposable Thumb | a thumb that can cross the palm to meet the other fingertips. |
| Anthropoids | the humanlike primates. |
| Prehensile Tail | a long, muscular tail that characterizes many primates. |
| Hominoid | a group of primates that can walk upright on two legs |
| Bipedal | ability to walk of two legs leaving the arms open for other activities. |
| Hominid | a group of modern primates that are bipedal. |
| Australopithecine | an early hominid that lived in Africa and possessed both apelike and humanlike chacteristics |
| Neandertals | lived from about 35,000 to 100,000 years aago in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. |
| Cro-Magnon | were identical to modern humans in height, skull structure, tooth structure, and brain size. |
