detritivore a consumer that consumes decaying leaves
decomposer a consumer that consumes dead plant and animal matter
autotroph any producer that makes its own energy
heterotroph any consumers that consumes other oraganisms
apex predator a predator that has few or no predators
organisms a living, solitary being
predator an animal that is hunted and eaten by predators
predatation the act of preying
prey an animal that is hunted and eaten by predators
symbiotic relationship a relationship where 2 organisms live together and interact
commensation a symbiotic relationship where one member benefits and the other is unaffected
mutualism a symbiotic relationship where both members benefit
parasitism a symbiotic relationship where both members benfit
host the member of a parasitic relationship wo is harmed
parasite the member of parasitic relationship who benefits
niche the role that an organism plays in an ecosystem
limiting factor any factor that limits the size of a population
resource a physically resource that is used by an organism to survive
nutrient a physical item that is consumed by an organism to survive
abiotic not alive
biotic alive
food web as graphic that has several food chains combined-creating a web that represents an ecosystem
