Monosaccharides Single Sugar Molecules- Glucose, Galactose and Fructose
Disaccharides Two Monosaccharides joined by glycosidic bonds eg. Sucrose, Lactose, Maltose
Glucose + Glucose = Maltose
Glucose + Fructose = Sucrose
Glucose + Galactose = Lactose
Hydrolysis The breaking down of disaccharides into monosaccharides
Condensation The joining together of two monosaccharides with glycosidic bonds to for disaccharides
Polysaccharides Polymers of sugar molecules joined by glycosidic bonds
Starch Amylose and Amylopectin (1,4) (1,4 and 1,6) glycosidic bonds
