zygote the result of fertilization
Fertilization the joining of sperm and egg
True Breeding produce offspring identical to themselves if allowed to self pollinate
Trait a specific characteristic (ex: seed color, dimples, etc)
Hybrid the offspring of parents with different traits
Gene chemical factors that determine traits
Allele different gene choices for a trait (ex: eye color- black, blue, brown)
Segregation the separation of alleles
F1 first filial (or generation) of offspring
Dominant the allele that always appears if present
Recessive the allele that only appears if dominant is not present
Heterozygous has two different alleles for a trait (ex:Tt)
Homozygous has two of the same alleles for a trait (ex: TT or tt)
Phenotype the physical characteristic seen (ex: short)
Genotype the genetic makeup for the trait (tt)
