TermDefinition
What are Lipids made up of? Hydrocarbons.
Example of Lipids... Oils, Fats, Wax and Steroids.
Are Lipids soluble? They aren't soluble in water but are in organic solvents like ethanol.
what are Triglycerides? Energy stores in plants and animals.
What are Triglycerides made up of? Three Fatty acids and a Glycerol.
Triglyceride bonds Ester Bonds .
Saturated Fats structure Made up of a carbon and Hydrogen molecules.There is no room for any more Hydrogen molecules.
Saturated fats have a double carbon bond? No.
Examples of Saturated fats Animal fats and meat and dairy products.
Unsaturated Fats stucture Made up of carbon and hydrogen bonds. There is room for more hydrogen bonds.
Do unsaturated fats have a double carbon bond? Yes.
Examples of Unsaturated fats Olive oil, Vegetable oils,nuts and fish.
Where is Cholesterol made? In the liver.
what Type of fat makes up Cholesterol? Saturated fats.
what is Cholesterol used for? Sex hormones, Bile salts and used in membranes.
How is a Phospholipid formed. one of the fatty acids is replaced by a negatively charged phosphate group.
