What are the elements that are found in lipids? C,H and O.
What is the ratio of hydrogen to oxygen in lipids? H:O > 2:1
Name the two lipids? Oil and Fat.
Are oils saturated or unsaturated? Unsaturated.
Are lipids insoluble in water? Yes.
What is the lipid mainly found in animal fats? Triglycerides.
What process is used to break down a triglyceride? Hydrolysis.
What is the structure of the triglyceride made out of? Glycerol Backbone, £ fatty acids and ester bonds.
During hydrolysis, how many H2O molecules do you have to add, to break down the triglyceride? 3.
Where are saturated lipids mainly found? Animal fats.
Where are unsaturated lipids mainly found? Vegetable Oils.
