Hydrolosis When to molecules are split.
Condensaton When to molecules are joined.
Carbohydrates Carbon, Hydrogen, oxygen
Monosaccharides Are single sugar units.
Disaccharides Two single sugar units joined together (double sugar)
Polysaccharides More than two single sugar unites joined together.
Sucrose Glucose and Fructose.
Maltose Glucose and Glucose.
Lactose glucose and Fructose.
1,4 Glycosidic bond Is formed between carbon 1 on one side and carbon 4 on the other.
Two types of starch Amylose and Amylopectin.
Bonds in Amylose 1,4
Bonds in Amylopectin 1,4 and 1,6
Types of Polysaccharides Starch, cellulose, glycogen.
Why is Glycogen a good Energy storage molecule? Its insoluble and it has many branches so it can be broken down rapidly.
Why is starch a good molecule for storing energy? starch is insoluble and it doesn't devolve across cell membranes and it doesn't have an osmotic effect.
