TermDefinition
Primary Productivity The rate of biomass that an ecosystem builds.
Energy Pyramid Emphasizes the loss of energy from one trophic level to the next.
Biomass Pyramid Represents the actual biomass in each pyramid.
Pyramid of Numbers Shows the number of individual organisms in each trophic level of an ecosystem.
Kinetic Energy The energy of motion.
Calorie The energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water up one degree celsius.
Potential Energy Energy that is stored.
ATP ATP is used in cellular respiration to release glucose, carbon dioxide, and water.
Thermal Energy Energy that is released through heat.
Chemical Energy Organic compounds have a form of potential energy called chemical energy. The rearrangement of atoms during chemical reactions is the process of chemical energy.
