meiosis

TermDefinition
Homologous an identical pair of chromosomes or genes
Diploid contains 2 sets of homologous chromosomes (2n)
Haploid contains one set of genes (1n)
Meiosis the process of reduction division that creates four genetically different haploid cells
Tetrad the homologous chromosomes pair up(X X)
Crossing Over the chromosomes in a tetrad exchange (trade) portions of the chromosome
Gamete the sex cells, the sperm in males, the ovum (egg) in females. Have half the number of chromosomes (1n)
Somatic Cell the body cells, contain two sets of chromosomes (2n)
