Unit 3: Cells

TermDefinition
Microscopy a technique used to increase the size of a specimen (sample)
Maginification the size of an image
Resolution the clarity (clearness) of an image
Dissecting Microscope light reflects off the surface of the object; you can see the object with the naked eye (5X – 30X magnification)
Compound/Light Microscope light shines through the object; objects are too small to see with the naked eye (100X – 400X magnification)
Electron Microscope uses electrons to form an image of an object; objects are VERY small (200,000x magnification)
Total Magnification Eyepiece x Objective len
Wet-Mount Slide A slide created by placing a drop of water on a specimen and lowering a cover slip at a 45 degree angle to prevent bubbles
