| Energy | Energy is made by the sunlight in ecosystems (by producers), and is the basis of survival for all consumers. |
| Autotroph | An organism that makes its own food. (Such as plants) |
| Primary Consumers | Primary consumers feed directly on producers. |
| Omnivores | Omnivores eat both producers and consumers. |
| Detritus | An organisms waste and remains are called detritus. (Decomposers feed off of detritus) |
| Photosynthesis | The process of which plants convert sunlight into energy. |
| Consumer | Consumers depend on producers in order to obtain energy for survival. |
| Secondary Consumers | Secondary consumers eat primary consumers. |
| Decomposers | Decomposers feed off of detritus. |
| Food Webs | A food web shows the interconnection/branches of food that many different species of animals, plants, and organisms eat. |
| Producers | Producers make their own food and energy. |
| Heterotroph | An organism that depends on autotrophs for energy. |
| Carnivores | A consumer that eats other consumers. |
| Trophic Level | Certain organisms in a specific ecosystem represent a trophic level. |
| Food Chain | The pathway of food from one trophic level to another. |
| Biomass | Material used as fuel or a source of energy. |
| Herbivores | A consumer that eats only producers. |
| Tertiary Consumers | Tertiary consumers eat secondary consumers. |
| Cellular Respiration | The process in which glucose, water, carbon dioxide, and energy is released. |
