| Energy | The ability to do work. |
| Atotroph | Producers or self feeders |
| Primary consumers | The first level of consumers. |
| omnivores | Have a diet that consists of producers and consumers |
| detritus | Waste and remains of dead organisms. |
| Photosynthesis | A chemical process that turns carbon dioxide into water. |
| consumer | They turn the suns energy into food energy. |
| secondary consumers | Are the consumers that eat the other consumers. |
| decomposers | Decomposers are the bacteria that eats the dead body of a producer or a consumer after it has died. |
| food webs | pathway of food transfer from one trophic level to another |
| producers | They have chemical bonds that hold them together and use oxygen to make energy. |
| heterotroph | Organisms that eat other organisms. |
| carnivores | A organism that only eats other organisms. |
| trophic levels | These are the groups that organisms are put into based on the way they obtain there food. |
| food chain | pattern of feeding in an ecosystem consisting of interconnected and branching food chains |
| biomass | The total organic matter in a ecosystem. |
| herbivores | Are organisms that only eat plants. |
| tertiary consumers | The consumers that feed on the secondary consumers. |
| cellular respiration | A chemical process that converts oxygen into energy. |

| Potential Energy | energy stored due to an object's position or arrangement |
| ATP | (adenosine triphosphate) main energy source that cells use for most of their work |
| Thermal Energy | total amount of energy associated with the random movement of atoms and molecules in a sample of matter |
| Chemical Energy | potential to perform work due to the arrangement of atoms within molecules |
