population Localized group of individuals belonging to the same species
species Group whose individuals have the potential to interbreed
gene pool Total genes in a population
allele frequency Frequency at which an allele occurs in a population
genotype frequency Frequency at which a genotype occurs in a population
Hardy-Weinberg Theorem Frequencies of genotypes and alleles remain constant over generations unless acted on by some agent other than Mendelian segregation and recombination of alleles
genetic drift Change in the gene pool of a population due to sampling error
gene flow Genetic exchange due to the dispersal of fertile individuals or gametes between populations
Macroevolution origin of new taxonomic groups as a result of favorable mutations that lead to a selective advantage
adaptation Inherited characteristic of an organism that enhances its survival and reproduction in a given environment
