| Organ | Structure, such as the heart, made up of different types of tissues that all work together. |
| Organelle | Structure in the cytoplasm of a eurkaroytic cell that can act as a storage site, process energy, move materials, or manufacture substances. |
| Organ System | A group of organs working together to perform a certain function. |
| Phylogeny | Evolutionary history of an organism; used today to group organisms into six kingdoms. |
| Ribosome | Small structure on which cells make their own proteins. |
| Tissue | Group of similar cells that work together to do one job. |
| Virus | A strand of hereditary material surrounded by a protein coating. |
| Organism | Any living thing. |
| Bacteria (Bacterium) | Small single cells whose sole purpose in life is to replicate. |
| Prokaryote | Are only found in one-celled organisms such as bacteria. This type of cell has no membrane-bound structures inside. |
| Eukaryote | Are found in organisms such as protists, fungi, plants and animals. this type of cell has membrane-bound structures. |
| Infectious Disease | A disease that is caused by a virus, bacterium, protist, or fungus and is spread from an infected organism or the environment to another organism. |
| Infect | To contaminate with a disease-producing substance such as bacteria. |
| Disease | A condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms. |
| Parasite | An organism living in, with, or on another organism; depends on something else for existence or support without making a useful or adequate return. |
