divergent evolution The process by which an interbreeding population or species diverges into two or more descendant species, resulting in once similar or related species to become more and more dissimilar
deoxyribonucleic acid a self-replicating material which is present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.
double helix a pair of parallel helices intertwined about a common axis, especially that in the structure of the DNA molecule.
