Basic Freshman HS Genetics

TermDefinition
heredity the passing of traits to offspring
recessive trait that is expressed only when a dominant allele is not present
dominant trait that is expressed when even one allele is present
homozygous two identical alleles (EX: BB)
heterozygous two different alleles (EX: Bb)
genotype the genetic code for a trait (EX: Bb)
phenotype the physical appearance of a trait (EX: brown eyes)
sex-linked trait a trait that is carried on an X chromosome (one of the sex chromosomes)
