Heredity & Genetics

TermDefinition
Pedigree is a graphic representation of genetic inheritance.
Carrier heterozygous, represented as a shaded half circle.
Fetus the developing baby.
Incomplete Dominance the phenotype of heterozygous individuals is intermediate between those of the two homozygotes.
Codominant Allele cause the phenotypes of both homozygotes to be produced in heterozygous individuals.
Multiple Allele traits controlled by two or more alleles.
Autosome the 22 pairs of homologous chromosomes.
Sex Chromosome the two chromosomes that determine what sex the individual will be, X & Y
Sex-Linked Traits traits controlled by genes located on the sec chromosomes.
Polygenic Inheritance the inheritance pattern of a trait controlled by two or more genes.
Karyotype a chart of chromosome pairs, it is valuable in identifying unusual chromosome numbers in cells.
