Ultrastructure Fine detail of a cell as seen with an electron microscope
Cell membrane is made up of? Phospholipids and proteins
Functions of membranes 1)Retain cell contents 2)Selectively permeable 3)Give some support to cell 4)Recognise molecules that touch them
Nucleus Control centre of the cell
Chromatin Name given to chromosomes when they are not dividing
Nuclear pores Allow mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) to pass in and out of cells
Nucleolus Where ribosomes are made
Cytoplasm Jelly like fluid that suspends organelles
Mitochondria Supply energy to the cell. Are sites of respiration.
Chloroplasts Where photosynthesis takes place
Cell wall Made of cellulose. Supports&strengthens cell.
Ribosome Make proteins
Prokaryotic Do not have a nucleus or membrane-enclosed organelles (bacteria)
Eukaryotic Have a nucleus and cell organelles, enclosed by membranes (more advanced)
