plant and animal cells
| part | function |
|---|---|
| Cell Wall (for plants only) | Rigid outer structure that provides support and protection. |
| Vacuole (plant cell) | Much larger in plant cells/stores water and helps plant keep its shape. |
| CHLOROPLAST (for plants only) | Contains chlorophyll / captures energy from sunlight and stores it in glucose molecules |
| CELL MEMBRANE (animal cell) | The protective, outer layer that controls what enters and leaves |
| ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM (animal cell) | A folded membrane that moves materials around inside the cell |
| RIBOSOMES on ER (animal cell) | The smallest organelle / makes proteins |
| CYTOPLASM (animal cell) | Gel-like material that streams through cell / stores chemicals |
| GOLGI BODY (animal cell) | Stacks of sac-like membranes / package materials to ship out |
| VACUOLE (animal cell) | Small sac that stores water, food, and waste temporarily |
| MITOCHONDRION (animal cell) | Inner folded membrane / breaks down glucose to release energy |
| LYSOSOME (animal cell) | Small sacs with pores / digestive enzymes get rid of waste, worn out parts, and invaders |
