Kingdom Fungi

QuestionDescription
Phylum Basidiomycota "club fungi" -produce spores on basidia, saprophytic or parasitic *mushrooms, smuts, puffballs, shelf fungi
Phylum Ascomycota "sac fungi" -form spores in protective membranes *yeast, diseases that effect trees (Dutch elm disease, chestnut blight)
Phylum Zygomycota -form zygospores, reproduce both asexually and sexually *bread mold
Phylum Chytridiomycota -spores have flagella *chytrids, like muddy or aquatic areas
Phylum Deuteromycota "imperfect fungi", "holding area" -the fungi with sexual reproduction cycles that are not determined *antibiotic, penicillin
Phylum Myxomycota -behave like fungi when they reproduce, and behave like colonial protists when they feed, sometimes placed in kingdom protista *slime mold
