Photosynthesis Vocab

ATP primary compound used by cells to store and release energy
chlorophyll primary pigment used by plants to capture sunlight
thylakoid discs of chlorophyll found in the chloroplast
heterotroph organisms that rely on others for food
autotroph organisms that can make their own food
photosynthesis the process of capturing sunlight and using carbon dioxide and water to produce sugars
stroma fluid portion of chloroplast
NADP+ carrier molecule that transfers high energy electrons from chlorophyll to other molecules
light-dependent reactions set of reactions that use sunlight to produce ATP and NADPH
light-independent reactions set of reactions that do not require sunlight, produces carbon compounds during the Calvin Cycle
photosystem cluster of chlorophyll/proteins found in thylakoids that capture sunlight
ATP synthase cluster of proteins that allow hydrogen ions to pass through, generating ATP
Calvin Cycle energy from ATP/NADPH are used to build sugars during this reaction
Electron Transport Chain series of carrier proteins that carry high energy electrons
