What is another name for the left atrioventricular valve? Biscuspid valve
What is another name for the right atriventricular valve? Tricuspid valve
Why do we have capillaries? Blood has to pass through them to present a large surface area for the exchange of gases
What is the purpose of the valves? To prevent backflow of blood into the atria when ventricles contract
Why does the left ventricle have thicker walls than the right? It has to pump blood through the whole body whereas the right vetnricle only has to pump it to the lungs
What is the route blood takes through the heart? Vena cava, right atrium, right ventricle, pulmonary artery, left atrium, left ventricle, aorta
What supply the heart with oxygen Coronary arteries
What's unusual about the pulmonary vein? It carries oxygenated blood
What happens to the blood at the lungs? Its oxygen is replenished and its carbon dioxide removed
What is the function of the vena cava? It brings deoxygenated blood back from the tissues of the body
What is the function of the aorta? Carries oxygenated blood to all parts of the body except the lungs
