lipids

QuestionAnswer
what is the general structure of lipids? hydrocarbon chains
why are they considered non polar? doesn't readily dissolve in water and hydrocarbon chains share electrons evenly.
what is the difference between saturated and non saturated hydrocarbons? saturated- only single bonds exist, non saturated- at least one or more double bonds are present
what are the tree different types of lipids? fats (triglycerides), steroids (example: cholesterol) phospholipids (phosphate group)
what is the bond between glycerol and fatty acids? ester
what are the functions of lipids? energy storage, act as a pigment that absorb sunlight, serve as signals between cells, water proof coating on leaves, act as vitamins, formation of cell membranes.
