TermDefinition
Cell The smallest structual unit of a centralizied group or movement.
Organism An individiual form of life, such as plant,animal and Bacteria.
Unicellar Having or consisting of one cell.
Homeostatics The ability or tendency of an organism or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes.
Binomial Nomenclature a system for naming plants and animals by means of two Latin names
Species A fundamental category of taxonomic classification, ranking below a genus or subgenus and consisting of related organisms capable of interbreeding
Genus Biology any of the taxonomic groups into which a family is divided and which contains one or more species
Dichotomous Key a key used to identify a plant or animal in which each stage presents descriptions of two distinguishing characters, with a direction to another stage in the key, until the species is identified
Cladogram A branching, treelike diagram in which the endpoints of the branches represent specific species of organisms. It is used to illustrate phylogenetic relationships and show points at which various species have diverged from common ancestral forms
Light Microscope - microscope consisting of an optical instrument that magnifies the image of an object
Compound Microscope A microscope consisting of an objective and an eyepiece at opposite ends of an adjustable tube.
Electron Microscope Any of a class of microscopes that use electrons rather than visible light to produce magnified images, especially of objects having dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible light, with linear magnification approaching or exceeding a million.
