A&P cell structure
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| hydrophobic | lipid- soluble can cross the membrane |
| hydrophillic | water- soluble, (ie. ions) need transporters |
| Erythrocytes | anucleated (no nucleus) |
| rough ER | ribosomes, protein sythesis |
| smooth ER | steroid synthesis, detoxification, in smooth muscles: contains calcium, in skeletal muscles |
| Golgi complex | Protein folding, packaging, and secretion (by exocytosis: need microtubles) |
| lysosome | responsible for the fingers & toes (lysosomes dissolve tissue to make fingers & toes) and tail lost |
| mitochondria | contains own DNA&ribosomes, cellular respiration |
| peroxisomes | kill bacteria; free radicals: oxidants |
| microfilments | solid, actin proteins |
| microtubules | hollow, tublin proteins, makes the mitotic spindle |
| intermediate filaments | strong, keratin protein |
| tight junctions | force material to go through cell not between cells, ex. intestine |
| desmosome | small space between cells that is spanned by web of protein filaments,ex. skin uterus, heart |
| gap junctions | pores, briged by connexons, cardiac muscles |
| transcription | formation of RNA copy of a gene from DNA |
| translation | uses RNA for sythesis of the protein |
