Nuclear Envelope Membrane composed of thousands of pores that surround the nucleus
Nucleolus Small, dense region within the nucleus where ribosomes are produced
Cell Membrane Liquid bi-layer membrane that surrounds the cell
Ctyoplasm Material inside of the cell membrane but not the nucleus
Mitochondria Converts chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Membrane where lipid components of the cell membrane are assembled; lacks ribosomes
Ribosome Protein factories of the cell; found free-floating or attached to the endoplasmic riticulum
Rough endoplasmic reticulum Membrane with ribosomes for making proteins
Golgi Apparatus Modifies/packages molecule for export out of cell; it is near the cell membrane
Lysosome Contains enzymes for digesting or recycling molecules
Centrioles Two tiny structures in cytoplasm near nuclear envelope; used in cell division
Vacuole Storage units of cells; very large in plants for holding water
Chloroplasts Captures energy from the sun and converts it into chemical energy in a process called photosynthesis
Cell Wall Stiff fibers of cellulose; support and protect the plant
