Molecule A group of atoms bonded together.
Organic A compound containing carbon made by living things.
Nutrient substance required by your body for energy, growth, repair and maintenace.
Protein Used to build and repair the body; found in nuts, meat and milk.
Lipids Used for long term energy, as know as fat
Carbohydrates Used for short term energy; found in pasta, bread and vegetables.
Enzyme A protein that speeds up a chemical reaction.
Substrate The substance an enzyme works on.
Pepsin An enzyme that works in the stomach to break down protein.
Amylase An enzyme found in saliva that breaks down carbohydrates (starch)
Calorie The unit used to measure food energy.
Vitamins Found in small amounts in foods, play a role in metabolism
Minerals Inorganic substances not nade by living things.
Body Mass Index Weight in pound/Height in inches X 703 (healthy adult BMI = 18.5 to 25.0)
Nutrition Fact Label Found on the outside of food packages listing ingredients and calories.
