Classification Identification of objects and gathers them into groups whose members are similar to one another.
Taxonomy Science of naming organisms and assigning them to groups
Binomial Nomenclature Two part naming of an organism.
Taxon Categories into which organisms are classified or sorted.
Species A population of an organism.
Genus First part of a name.
Family Classification of a group of closely related genera.
Order Classification of several families of similar organism.
Class Classification category of related orders.
Phylum Category made of several classes of different organisms that share important characteristics.
Kingdom Highest ranking classification of living organisms that falls into one of the six major groups.
Domain Largest category to classify life forms.
Dichotomous Key Key to use identify plant or animal.
Phylogeny Development or evolution of a particular group of organisms.
Cladogram Phylogene tree construded from a series of 2-way branch points, ancestral relationships.
