TermDefinition
Plasma Membrane Forms the outer limiting boundary of the cell and separates cell contents from the external environment
Cell Wall Found outside of the plasma membrane in plant cells
Cytoplasm Includes all material within the cell membrane except the nucleus
Organelles Include the nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi bodies, lysosomes, ribosomes, plastids and vacuoles
Nucleus Contains DNA and may contain one or more smaller bodies called nucleoli (singular: nucleolus)
Plastids Membrane-bound organelles that are unique to plants
Lecoplasts colorless plastids
Chloroplasts Green plastids containing chlorophyll
Chromoplasts Plastids containing other colored pigments
Vacuole Fluid filled sac occupying most of the central part of the plant cell and pressing against the cytoplasm. Smaller ones are found in animal cells
