Stack #132737

chordates- acrania and general info

QuestionAnswer
2 groups of chordata and their 3 subphyla ACRANIA- urochordata and cephalochordata, CRANIA- vertebrates
type of symmetry bilateral
type of dev. and coelom DEUTERSTOMATE (anus first, radial cleavage, intermediate dev)/ coelomate
endo skeleton drived from which tissue layer mesoderm
4 traits ALL chordates have: 1.NOTOCHORD: what, where cellular tube running along dorsal axial skeleton - between GI tract and NC (underneath NC)/ stucture of mesoderm of embryo that will become the vertebra of spinal column
2. PHARYGEAL SLITS/POUCHES: # in each subphyla Acrania (urochord. and cephalochord.) have many, Craniata(vertebrates) have few
function of pharyngeal pouches and slits in vertebrates ( both fishes/ larval amphibians and higher level vertebrates) Fishes and amphibian larva: respi, ratory (int.gills)/ higher level -many derivitives (next card)
in higher vertabrates- things derived from pharyngeal pouches -5 many derivatives of pouches-eustchian tubules, middle ear cavities, parathyroid glands, thymus, palatine tonsils, etc
function of pharyngeal pouches and slits in urochord. and cephalochord. filter feeding
3. DORSAL HOLLOW NERVE CORD- anat. CNS brain and spinal chord/ NEUROCOEL- central, fluid filled cavity
4. ENDOSTYLE or THYROID GLAND: func.,type and variation between craniata and a craniata Same function for both- secrete iodine. Urochord and Cephalochord.- endostyle - secretes mucous and iodinated proteins Vertebrates- thyroid gland - secretesiodine and hormones
Subphyla Urochordata- tunicates mostly sedentary- live in sea bed, free swimming larva *Adults- no notochord,BUT- do have pharyngeal clefts and a dorsal nerve cord. -
3 classes of urochordtata 1. ascidiacea = tunicates, 2. thaliacea, 3.lanacea
Tunicates: alone or in group?, motile/sessile? # of siphons and where? "little teapots" -mobile larva and sessile adult, no tail , incurrent(oral) / excurrent(atrial) siphons are both on SAME side, solitary or colonal
tunic and body wall anat. outter covering made of cellulose (tunicin)// longit. muscles
pharynx contains an ______ , a _____ band endostyle // hypopharyngeal band
size of, and # slits in pharynx large pharynx- many slits
main body cavity is called___ , instead of _____ and surrounds _______ ATRIUM - instead of coelom, surrounds pharynx
type of feeding, and how ciliary mucous feeders, endostyle secretes mucous- which traps food
cilia is located where and moves___ to ______with _____ inner surface of pharynx, moves mucous sheets w/ LANGUETS
languets- funct. work mucous cord to ciliated esophagus
ascidian/tadpole larva - type and function of tail propulsive tail provides motility- for dispersal
signifigance of ascidian larva Petomorphosis- if hypothetically, could maintain chord. charact. and become sexually mature- possible link between tunicate larva and more complex vertebrates
