Producers organisms that make their own food using sunlight. (lowest level of food web)
Photosynthesis using sunlight to make your own food.
Consumers organisms that eat other organisms. (they cannot use sunlight to make food)
Herbivore a consumer that only eats plants.
Carnivore a consumer that eats animals.
Omnivores a consumer that eats both plants and animals.
Scavengers Omnivores that eat dead plants and animals.
Decomposers organisms that break down dead organisms.
food chain a diagram that shows how energy in food flows from one organism to another.
food web a diagram that shows the feeding relationships between organisms in an ecosystem.(a group of food chains linked together)
energy pyramid a diagram that shows an ecosystems loss of energy. (shows producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers)
how is an organism's role in an ecosystem determined? by how it obtain its food (energy)

is energy in an ecosystem recycled? energy within an ecosystem is not recycled it flows from one organism to another. (organisms use this energy to live) it is important to know that MATTER IS recycled in an ecosystem NOT ENERGY!
