2. Functions of living things

NUTRITION | Living things obtain the substances they need to grow, renew their structures and get the energy to carry out the vital functions |
REPRODUCTION | Living things produce new individuals similar to themselves to guarantees the survival of the species. |
INTERACTION | Living things are able to collect information from the environment, process it and react to it. |
AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION | Those living things that can produce their own food, by making organic matter from inorganic compounds |
HETEROTROPHIC NUTRITION | Those living things that can’t produce their own food and have to eat other living things (organic matter) |
SEXUAL REPRODUCTION | A male gamete and a female gamete join producing a zygote. |
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION | It takes place through the division of the parent (progenitor) cell. The daughter cells are identical to the parent cell. |
SAPROTROPHS | They eat decomposing organic matter |
VIVIPAROUS REPRODUCTION | The mother feeds the embryo until birth |
OMNIVORES | They eat plants and animals |
OVIPAROUS REPRODUCTION | The mother lays one or more eggs that contain the embryo |
