Scientific Method

TermDefinition
Independent Variable The manipulated variable in an experiment
Dependent Variable The variable being measured
Experimental Group Each setup where you apply the IV
Control Group The set-up where you do not receive the IV
Constants Things that stay the same in all your groups to make it a fair test
Observation Using your 5 senses to gather information
Inference An educated guess
Scientific Method The systematic study of a question or problem
Hypothesis An educated guess
Prediction What you expect to happen if your hypothesis is correct
Independent Variable What I (the scientist) change in an experiment
Dependent Variable The variable that depends on the independent variable
Control Group The group that stays the same, you need it to compare.
Control Group The normal group
Qualitative Observation Observations that do not use numbers
Quantitative Observation Observations that use numbers
