Terms for Biology

| Abiotic Factors | The nonliving parts of an organism's environment. |
| Biological Community | A population of organisms living amongst each other. |
| Biosphere | The portion of the earth that supports living things. |
| Biotic Factor | A living things that are in a certain environment. |
| Commensalism | When one organism benefits and the other isn't affected. |
| Ecology | The study of the relationships of organisms. |
| Ecosystem | A group of organisms acting with other organisms and their surroundings. |
| Habitat | The natural home/environment for an organism. |
| Mutualism | When organisms benefit from each other. |
| Niche | When an organism has a role in an ecosystem. |
| Parasitism | When one organism gets a benefit when the other is harmed. |
| Population | A community of organisms. |
| Symbiosis | Interaction between two organisms. |
| Autotroph | An organism that can produce its own energy. |
| Biomass | The total mass of organisms in an area. |
| Decomposer | An organism that feeds off of a dead organism. |
| Food Chain | A system of organisms who depend on each other for energy. |
| Food Web | A system of food chains interlocked with each other. |
| Heterotroph | Organisms that depend on other organisms for energy through feeding. |
| Trophic Level | The level of consumer or producer an organism is on a food chain. |
| Climax Community | A stable, mature community that undergoes little or no change in species |
| Limiting Factor | Anything that restricts the life of an organism. |
| Primary Succesion | When barren land is colonized by communities of organisms. |
| Secondary Succesion | When a community of organisms is severely disrupted |
| Succesion | When a community of organisms successively gives way. |
| Tolerance | An organisms ability to withstand the environment. |
