Unit 1A vocabulary list.

TermDefinition
Hypothesis A testable explanation for a question/problem.
Experiment Procedure that tests a hypothesis.
Experimental group In an experiment, the group that is tested.
Control group In an experiment, the group that used for comparison; receives no experimental treatment.
Independent Variable A single factor changed by the scientist inn an experiment.
Dependent Veriable Change(s) measured/recorded in an experiment.
Constants Factors that do NOT change in an experiment.
Biology The study of life.
Orginism Anything that shows all the characteristics of life; a living thing.
Metabolism The process of breaking down food into energy.
Reproduction The process of making more of your own kind.
Responsivness Reacting to something in your environment.
Heredity The process of passing traits from parents to offspring.
Growth Increase in size.
Homeostasis Regulation of an organism's internal environment to proper balance.
