| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are the three groups that any community are based on and how they get energy? | Producers, Consumers, Decomposers |
| Producers | organisms that use sunlight directly to make food |
| How do producers make food? | They use the sunlight, but they do this by using a process called photosynthesis |
| Consumers | organisms that eat other organisms |
| What are the three types of consumers? | Herbivore, Carnivore, Omnivores |
| Herbivore | a consumer that eats only plants |
| Carnivore | a consumer that eats animals |
| Omnivores | a consumer that eats both plants and animals |
| Scavengers | omnivores that eat dead plants and animal, they also eat animals and plants that have died from natural causes |
| Decomposers | organisms that get energy by braking down dead organisms |
| What are the different jobs of a decomposer? | They remove stored energy from organisms. They produce simple materials, such as water and carbon dioxide, which can be used by other living things. |
| Why are decomposers important? | Because they are nature's recyclers. |
| Food Chain | a diagram that shows how energy in food flows from one organism to another. *because few organisms eat just one kind of food, simple food chains are rare. |
| Food Web | a diagram that shows the feeding relationships between organisms in an ecosystem. |
