| Scientific Method | Step by step process used to solve problems |
| Hypothesis | A possible explanation or solution to a problem in nature based on research |
| Control Group | Group in the experiment not subjected to the variable; used to compare results |
| Independent Variable | Group that is tested; Manipulated by the experimenter |
| Dependent Variable | Group that responds to the changes that are made to the independent variable group; CANNOT be manipulated by the experimenter |
| Constant | Factors that do not change during an experiment |
| Placebo | Something given to the control group (water, sugar pill, etc) so that all aspects of the experiment remain constant |

| Responding Variable | Dependent Variable |
| Theory | Well-supported and well tested explanation for aspects of the natural world; Can be revised as more information is discovered |
