| homeostasis | regulation of an organism’s internal environment to maintain conditions needed for life. |
| Taxonomy | branch of biology that identifies, names, and classifies species based on their natural relationships. |
| Xylem | vascular plant tissue that transports water and dissolved minerals away from the roots throughout the plant |
| pathogen | agent, such as a bacterium, virus, protozoan, or fungus, that causes infectious disease. |
| non-pathogenic | doesn't cause an infectious disease |
| Polymer | large molecule formed from smaller repeating units of identical, or nearly identical, compounds linked by covalent bonds. |
| Polysaccharides | a large sugar molecule made of linked hydrocarbons |
| microorganism | a tiny living organism that must be viewed with a microscope. (Example: Bacteria, Viruses, Plankton) |
