Diversity of Species

TermDefinition
Taxonomy The branch of biology that names and classifies species.
Vertical Dimension The size scale that reaches all the way from molecules to the biosphere.
Horizontal Dimension The great diversity of species.
Kingdom A classification that includes Monera, Animalia, Protista, Plantae, and Fungi.
Domain A classification that categorizes the five kingdoms into three domains: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya
domain Bacteria The domain consisting of bacteria.
domain Archaea The domain consisting of prokaryotes, many of which live in extreme enviroments.
domain Eukarya The domain consisting of all organisms made up of eukaryotic cells.
kingdom Monera The kingdom that includes bacteria and archaea.
kingdom Animalia The kingdom consisting of animals.
kingdom Plantae The kingdom consisting of plants.
kingdom Fungi The kingdom consisting of fungus.
kingdom Protista The kingdom which includes many single-celled eukaryotes.
