| antibodies | protein molecules made by the body to combat pathogens |
| bactericidal | killing of bacteria |
| bacteriostatic | inhibiting the growth of bacteria |
| chemotherapy | use of chemical agents to treat or prevent disease |
| disorders | afflictions which are not caused by pathogens |
| fever | elevated body temperature used to kill invading bodies |
| fixed phagocytic cells | found in lymph nodes throughout body |
| free phagocytic cells | found in the blood stream; examples are white blood cells |
| lymphatic system | breaks down pathogens and other foreign substances carried in the fluids of the blood |
| phagocytic cells | disease-fighting cells |
